This summer I traveled to the La Gomera, Canary Islands where my only responsibility was to create art. This beautiful experience led to a collection of film and digital photographs as well as charcoal drawings. I stayed for two weeks with Wonderfull people in an environment that continued to inspire me more and more each day.

Day 5. | 6.8.21

Me and Tom decided to walk to the village, Alojera, down bellow us. Walk is a generous word. The dusty cruel landscape rolled on and on weaving us down to Alojera. We got a tad lost on the way down, I am surprised we made it. We ended up in a place lit up by a big sign “ Bar Plaza”. We sat at the white counter trying to muster up the courage to spit out the words for two coffees. Two very loud gentleman came in laughing, the type of laugh from deep within. This of course muted our already whispered order. They sat down in the metal bar stools next to us. There was a disco ball hanging in the corner and a coke bottle with my name on it. We decided to add sandwiches to the order, making it even more complicated. It must have been the worried crinkles in my forehead because the jolly men helped us order. It was a really good sandwich.

Day 7 | 6.10.21

We burned our feet on the stones today. With raw pink feet we tried our best to avoid the heat. Everyone staying in the house decided that the only cure was to drive down to the beach. Last night a spunky Italian artist, Frederica, moved in. She drove us down the mountain to the beach. The beach was rocky and had a rough cement pair. The prickly cement would lead to smoother stone stairs leading down into the water. I am not a graceful diver, I tried my best to jump into the water. The sun was low in the sky and the tide was beginning to change. The big rocks once just below our toes were now becoming slippery surfaces we could stand on, until a wave came and knocked us off. Defeated, we passed up to the shore to find Frederica had made friends with a local man. She is the only one of us that could speak a lick of Spanish. Her new friend invited us over to his restaurant for a cold drink, and you never turn down a cold drink.
